چکیده

Male predaceous stink bugs (Pentatom idae: A sopinae) in the genus Podisus release longrange a ttrac tan t pherom ones from a pair o f hypertrophied glands opening underneath the wings. Pherom one com positions are reported for four additional Podisus spp.: two N eotropi cal species (P. connexivus and an undeterm ined Podisus sp.), and two N earctic species (P. placidus and P. mucronatus). M ales o f each species release (£)-2-hexenal, plus species-specific m ajor com ponents tha t include a-terpineol, linalool, 9-hydroxy-2-nonanone, and (£)-2-hexenyl tiglate. The pherom onal chem istry o f the N eotropical species closely resembles that for the previously studied N earctic species, P. macuiiventris and P.fretus.

Pheromone attraction and cross-attraction of Nezara, Acrosternum, and Euschistus spp. stink bugs (Heteroptera: Pentatomidae) in the field.

Detecting infestations of stink bugs (Heteroptera: Pentatomidae) using pheromones remains problematic, particularly so in the United States for the exotic stink bug, Nezara viridula L., and our native stink bug, Acrosternum hilare (Say). Therefore, we conducted a 2-yr on-farm study to examine the attractiveness and possible cross-attraction of the reported pheromones for N. viridula and A. hila...

Artifacts and Pheromone Blends from Nezara spp. and Other Stink Bugs (Heteroptera: Pentatomidae)

Isomeric compounds reportedly released by mature males o f Nezara viridula as attractants for conspecific females are evidently artifacts formed by dimerization o f (£)-4-oxo-2-hexenal. Additional analyses o f the male-specific volatiles from Italian, Australian, Brazilian, and Jap anese populations o f N. viridula verify that at least two distinctive pheromone strains exist, but an active syn...

Toxicity of Chromobacterium subtsugae to southern green stink bug (Heteroptera: Pentatomidae) and corn rootworm (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae).

Diabrotica spp. (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae) beetles and southern green stink bugs, Nezara viridula (L.) (Heteroptera: Pentatomidae), are pests on corn, Zea mays L., and soybean, Glycine max (L.) Merr., as well as on cucurbits. Control of these insects has depended on chemicals. An alternative to chemical control is the use of biologicals. Use of bacteria, fungi, viruses, pheromones, and metabol...

Morphology and Postdepositional Dynamics of Eggs of the Predator Podisus distinctus (Stål) (Heteroptera: Pentatomidae: Asopinae).

The predator Podisus distinctus (Stål) (Heteroptera: Pentatomidae: Asopinae) has been reared to control lepidopteran defoliators. In this study, we describe this predator's morphology, postdepositional dynamics and eggs in different developmental stages under scanning electron microscope. Its eggs are subglobular and ovoid, narrower at the base than at the top, with a convex, circular operculum...
